Mooltan offers the experience of going home to a large country house and not having to do the dishes. History sets the style. Mooltan was built in 1924 and was originally known as Spring View before being renamed after a P&O ocean liner - 'Mooltan'.
The two lounges have open fires. The Billiard room is always good for family fun and a sunroom overlooking Mineral Springs is a favourite winter spot. Downstairs the three new studio apartments are fully self-catering with hand-made furnishings by local craftsmen and women. In the bedroom, bi-fold windows open on to a secluded and tranquil setting overlooking the extensive garden, tennis court and the Mineral Springs Reserve. The bathrooms with Japanese baths are totally refitted, while the modern kitchen facilities allow you to prepare a meal. The house is in easy walking distance of Hepburn Springs's collection of shops, restaurants, day spas and a short drive to neighbouring Daylesford.
The house has two ensuite rooms and four traditional bedrooms upstairs with bedrooms opening on to wide verandas. The house is also available for whole house bookings, with use of the commercial kitchen. The house comfortably can accommodate 20 people and extra bedding can be provided. In a bushland setting, the eye-catching hedge with the name sculptured across the front hides a leisure garden planned for quiet enjoyment.
They are continually developing the garden, and this year they are getting a lot of pleasure from the new vegetable garden, next to the Taj Mahal of all glasshouses. The garden is based around the original 1920's layout, with a cypress hedge and a rare variegated maple. But there have been many additions over the years including the "Cubby cum Tree House", the gazebo, the tennis court and the bottom lawn.
