Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) and Big Hill Events are pleased to announce that entries to the 2009 Felt MTBA Australian Marathon Championships and Felt Marathon Challenge are now open. This exciting mountain bike event will be held on Sunday 29 March 2009. After a competitive tendering process, MTBA awarded the 2009 Felt MTBA Marathon Championships to Big Hill Events and their annual Wandong race. While the Championships are set to attract Australia s top mountain bike riders, the event offers a range of course lengths to ensure that it appeals to intermediate and recreational riders as well as those who are new to marathon mountain biking. With the beautiful Mt Disappointment State Forest as the backdrop, riders will chose from 100km, 69km and 38km distance options. Big Hill Events Race Directors, Rohin Adams and Bruce Dickey, are excited about the event s third year and are proud of the course that will test riders with a mix of fire roads, 4WD tracks, double tracks and excellent single track sections. The course is challenging yet achievable with the average rider expected to complete the 100km course in between five and six hours , said Adams. If this sounds like too long in the saddle, the 38km and 69km distances are a fantastic option! At the elite end, competition is set to be fierce and the estimated winning time for Elite Male (100km) is 4hr15m. All riders will enjoy the European racing experience, with Feed Zones like no other event in Australia. Riders will be given water bottles, sports drinks, food by Degani, Gels and Energy bars by Endura as well as fruit and snacks. Further to this, free mechanical support by Croydon Cycle Works will be on offer, as well as prizes totaling over $20,000. |
