The One Steel Fishy Fringe Festival was established by local group Create Inc as a vehicle to stimulate creative activity in a regional area. Now heading towards its sixth year 2009 the Festival has grown to the extent that some 7000 people are attracted. The Fringe and Festival encourages local groups, organisations and visual art workshops, writing workshops, cabaret, hip hop and dance. The Festival finishes with the One Steel Foreshore Fiesta featuring live music, creative art workshops, music sessions, roving acts and circus performers. Significant sponsorship is obtained locally to support this growing event. The Lions Club of Whyalla Mount Laura have joined Create in 2008 to further strengthen the event with the aim of developing the Festival further, not only for local community but to attract more visitors to the area. In 2006 the event won a SA Great Award and was judged Whyalla Community Event of the Year. |
