The role of Town Crier was created for Syd Cuffe in 1983 in the lead up to Portland's 150th anniversary celebrations. In 1985 Syd was named Citizen of the Year in recognition of his contribution to Portland's 150th celebrations. He continued as an ambassador for Portland, and later the Glenelg Shire, for 30 years.

Dressed in his magnificent costumes, he was a regular fixture at civic and community events. This display includes a selection of items donated by Syd's estate after his death in 2013.

The display is open 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Miss Maschmedt Visits Exhibition

This exhibition of photographs by Zillah Maschmedt documents her visits to Portland and Nelson.

Zillah Maschmedt was a primary school teacher in Mount Gambier in the 1930's. In November 1934, around the time of the Portland Centenary celebrations, Miss Maschmedt visited Portland with her mother Arabella and sister Elza.

In 1936, again accompanied by her mother and sister, Zillah travelled in the Mount Gambier to Nelson mail service car, stopping at farms and the Glenelg River along the way.

The Fillmore Brothers - Winter Wild Festival

Local pub rock legends Nutsack join forces with up and coming locals The Refuge for a night of ballsy rock 'n' roll. With special guest Dylan Johnson playing early in the front bar.

Nutsack are a bunch of jaded old men beyond their best days that were not particularly exciting in the first place, they love booze and are good men. They came out of retirement for a rare show in their semi hometown Apollo Bay.

The Refuge are fresh from a packed-out gig at the Workers Club Geelong supporting Southern River Band on their east coast tour, The Refuge’s well-honed, new material continues to win fans. The band recently won the Queenscliff Music Festival Emerging Artists grant, which they used to record their second studio album, due for release in late 2018.

Surf Coast Century Ultra Marathon

The Trail Running Series presented by The North Face takes your running off-road with a series of popular races at breath-taking wilderness locations within a one hour drive from Melbourne.

Each of the five events in The Series includes a short, medium and long course race that gives you plenty of carefree, smile-inducing running through some magnificent natural landscapes.

The 2018 Trail Running Series presented by The North Face Race 4 will be held at picturesque Anglesea on the Great Ocean Road on the coast – it is a spectacular run that is very different to all others in the Series.

Race 4 distances: 8 kilometres, 15 kilometres and 23 kilometres. Race 4 will also include a 1.9 kilometre kids run.

To get there, park at the Martins Point carpark, walk across the causeway to Griffiths Island and take the very scenic ten minute walk to the lighthouse.

3 Bays Marathon

3 Bays is back and it is now bigger and better with two days jam packed of running goodness. New for 2018 is the addition of a 60 kilometre trail ultra run on Saturday 3 November, taking the 3 Bays scenery to a whole new level.

It is 60 kilometre of mostly single track, coastal trail along the Great South West Walk - this is trail running as good as it gets and starts at the Bridgewater Lakes, taking in the sights of Bridgewater, Cape Nelson and Portland. It finishes in Portland as part of the Upwelling Festival.

Then on Sunday it's the 3 Bays road events you all know and love. Take your pick of the Marathon, Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon or Marathon Relays.

Moyneyana Festival

The festival was first held in 1947 and has developed into a huge range of activities to entertain the many holiday makers who flock to Port Fairy for their traditional summer holiday break.

The highlight of the year is undoubtedly the New Year's Eve Procession where many residents and local organizations put together a float, often with a humorous theme and hope to win the Champion Float prize.

Music is also a feature of New Year's Eve and live bands both before and after the procession keep the crowds entertained until midnight when a dazzling fireworks display lights up the night sky.

Other features of the festival include, Saturday markets, The Lions Club Art Show, surf lessons, outdoor movies, guided walks of the town and cemetery as well as golf competitions, cricket matches, and fun days in the Port Fairy pool.

Port Fairy Working Sheepdog Trials

The Port Fairy Working Sheepdog Trials will be held on the third Sunday in January from 7:00am.

The Commonwealth Championship Sheepdog Trials run for a week with triallers travelling from most states of Australia to compete in one of the biggest trials held in Australia.

Novice, open and improver heats are held throughout the week with finals on the weekend. A Trans Tasman trial is held under lights for three nights of the trial. Included in the trial is the coveted Australian Dog of the Year title with the best dog in each state attending by invitation to compete.

Held in the historic Port Fairy tourist town on the Shipwreck Coast of Victoria. Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea available at a very reasonable cost.
Port Fairy Jazz Festival

The Rip Curl Pro is the second event on the 2019 World Surf League (WSL) World Tour. The event holds a very special place in surfing folklore, as the longest running world championship level contest on the World Tour.

It is tradition that the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach waiting period includes the Easter long weekend.

Australian Kelpie Muster

The Clark Rubber Australian Kelpie Muster celebrates Casterton’s claim as the birthplace of the Australian Working Kelpie dog breed. The original 'Kelpie' was born at Warrock Station, north of Casterton, in the 1870’s.

The festival is filled with fun activities, celebrating and demonstrating the Kelpies’ amazing skills. Past years included attractions such as the Poets Breakfast, Kelpie Country Street Parade, RMA Working Dog Futurity, Kelpie Dash, Kelpie High Jump, Kelpie Hill climb, Kelpie Pinball and Stockman's Challenge.

The working dog auction attracts national interest and provides a unique chance to observe superior working dogs demonstrate their skills before sale. The auction is firmly placed on the calendar of working dog breeders and buyers, with breeders from all over Australia showcasing their bloodlines. Amazingly high prices are fetched for Kelpies at the auction, with figures in the thousands for a single dog.

The Working Dog school is conducted by a renowned trainer and bookings prior to the event are essential.
