The Heywood Wood, Wine and Roses Festival is held on the last Saturday in February each year.
Local business's decorate their windows with the Wood, Wine and Roses theme the week before the festival. Friday morning sees the district out early as the local primary school provides a delicious breakfast in the street. The day continues with educational activities for participating schools.
Activities on Saturday start with the Apex Mile Run where competitors in many age groups race from the Hotel to the Bowling Club and back. A large crowd eagerly lines the main street of town to watch the street parade that follows the race.
As the parade concludes, crowds flock to the main festival area to enjoy the non-stop entertainment. The initial admission price allows festival patrons to view most of the displays and entertainment inside the festival area free of charge.
Wine and cheese tasting is available in the wine marquee. The Wood Chop, Motor Cross racing and Lawn Mower Racing keeps patrons entertained. For a change of pace sit back and relax and enjoy the highland dancing and karaoke competitions. Over 100 market stalls display and sell a wide range of clothing, jewellery, paintings, hats, bags, toys and much, much more.
The surrounding halls and designated areas showcase the entries for the various floral arrangements, art and craft and photography competitions.
The entertainment on the main stage is continuous all day and late into the evening with both local dance groups and professional bands playing.
The evening concludes with a giant fireworks display.
