Anyone for tea? ‘M.A.I.D. 4.T’ is an exhibition of tea cosies, selected from the World Tea Cosy Championships, initiated by the Miles Regional Arts Council Inc. in partnership with Murilla Shire Council. In ‘M.A.I.D. 4.T’ the humble tea cosy is elevated from domestic object to an artform in its own right. This exhibition showcases a diverse range of tea cosies, from the traditional knitted and crocheted, to many exciting and contemporary textile art forms. Methods include mosaic, metal work, embroidery, appliqué, patchwork, weaving, quilting and free-form fabric work, while materials are as diverse as dried teabags and aircraft fabrics. Over 400 tea cosy entries from across Australia and as far afield as Ireland, Scotland, Canada, U.S.A., South Africa, England and New Zealand have been featured in The World Tea Cosy Championships since its inception two years ago. You will never look at a tea cosy in the same way again! |
