Avondale is a working Research Station which is part of Agriculture Western Australia. Agricultural research is conducted on Avondale, which is aimed at improving the efficiency and productivity of farming activities.
The historic part of Avondale features restored farm buildings of the 1800's as well as restored agricultural machinery, and domestic appliances.The farm machinery collection is probably the largest in Australia.
A fauna and flora reserve is being developed in a rare attempt to restore an area to its natural state after nearly 150 years of grazing. Incorporating a walk trail to allow visitors sustainable access.
The farm also features an Agriculture Museum. Spanning 100 years of farming history in Western Australia. The Landcare Education Centre houses exciting interactive displays on farming and landcare.
Check out the historic homestead furnished in period style and set in traditional colonial gardens. There is also a stable complex complete with horse works, forge and Clydesdale horses housed within.
Children and adults alike can visit the friendly farm animals. Pat a goat or feed a lamb. There are also Emus and Kangaroos on site.
The picnic area has free gas barbeques and children's adventure playground.
The farm is the third site of the Avon Ascent Scenic Drive.
