The 2009 Waikere Hotel - Music on the Murray Festival promises to continue its fine tradition of musical and artistic excellence , while providing opportunities for both rural and metropolitan visitors to experience the best the Riverland has to offer during their visit. The Music on the Murray Festival has set a very high bench mark in the past with three successful events staged on the picturesque Waikerie Riverfront. The past two events have seen performers Julie Anthony and ‘Pot Pourri” entertain and delight their audiences with first class entertainment. The main event will be on Saturday 4 April 2009 , in the big marquee next to the River Murray on the Waikerie Oval.This years event introduces musical maestro, James Morrison to the Riverland , along with his full band and vocal soloist , Emma Pask. James and his group will perform after interval bringing their vast musical talents to the stage while providing loyal patrons with a change of style from last year. As the event continues to grow and change, the event genre this year moves from classical/opera to big band/jazz style event. Complimenting this change in musical genre will be the inclusion of the South Australian Police Big Band, who will open the show and perform until interval. The Police band have a rich history of community involvement and musical excellence and their performance will be greatly anticipated. The River Murray Art Prize and Exhibition will run from Friday 27 March to Sunday 5 April 2009. The exhibiton will feature artwork reflecting the Culture of the River Murray and is open to works produced over the two year period from the last event. The exhibition will be in the Waikerie Institute in the centre of the shopping precinct providing easy access for all visitors.
