Pete Murray Live at The Station

The first big entertainment announcement of the season is Pete Murray playing at The Station on Saturday August 25.

One of Australia’s most loved musicians, Pete Murray is celebrating his stunning remix of his song Heartbeats, by ARIA-award winning Peter Mayes from PNAU with a three piece acoustic tour that will cross the country playing intimate club shows, supported nationally by exciting newcomer, Matthew Armitage.

Pumped to hit the road and play acoustic versions of his popular songs for fans across Australia, the acoustic tour will move through regional and metropolitan cities, and you’ll get a chance to see Pete Murray in action when he performs your favourite hits at The Station.

Avalanche Training Australia in conjunction with Avalanche New Zealand is proud to offer accredited two day Avalanche Awareness and four day Backcountry Avalanche Avoidance courses during the 2018 Australian winter.

Avalanche Training Australia (a partner organisation to Whiteroom) is the only training provider running these New Zealand accredited courses outside New Zealand. The provision of these worldwide recognised courses allows both industry professionals and recreational back country enthusiasts the chance to gain practical skills during the Australian winter that they can take with them wherever they travel in the mountains throughout the world.

Staffed by accredited skilled trainers who have run these successful educational programs for multiple years in Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

With a guitar approach best described as ‘electrocuted acoustic’, blended with the worlds oldest wind instrument, the didgeridoo as well as a voice likened to that of Eddie Vedder, this one man show delivers a full on sonic performance that is energetic, unique, engaging and above all, entertaining.

Already having blazed a trail across Australia performing alongside some of the countries biggest acts, made guest appearances on award winning albums, Perso has also performed alongside greats like B.B. King, the Black Keys and many others at some of the biggest blues and roots festivals throughout America and Canada.

Perso has released three original albums, the latest of which, Heart Soul Mind, features Perso’s best work to date.

Ben will host the weekends demonstrating how to utilise your camera to take the best shot. Ben is very familiar with both the Resort and the local area so knows all the best locations for taking that amazing photo and will teach you about light, the right time of day for shooting along with other hints and tips throughout the weekend. You will spend time both here on the Resort and in the surrounding region taking photos of the spectacular snow gums, mountain landscapes, rugged countryside along with beautiful rivers, lakes and streams.

Dalgety Team Penning

    The Dalgety Team Penning horse riding event is run by the Dalgety Show Society on the Saturday and is an event the whole family can enjoy.

    The Team Penning event involves a team of four riders, three of which must cut three head of cattle with the same colour neck collar from the herd of 21 cattle in a yard.

    The Snowy River Shears shearing competition will also be held on the Saturday.

    Barbecue and bar facilities will also be operating.

    The Snowy River Saddle Up Sunday will be held the next day. There will be 'horsey' fun for the whole family to enjoy. Entries can be made on the day.

Kids Fishing Workshops - Jindabyne

NSW Fisheries runs two one day, kids fishing workshops for eight-14 year olds on consecutive days.

The kids learn how fish responsibly in a safe and fun environment.

NSW DPI fishing workshops include fun lessons on fishing techniques, information on NSW fishing rules, best methods to maximise released fish survival and a practical fishing session in a pond stocked with big trout.

Cost per child includes quality rod and reel, shirt, hat, tackle box, show bag.

NSW DPI fishing workshops are run with the assistance of the Fishcare Volunteers and are supported by funds from the Recreational Fishing Trusts.

Hume and Hovell Ultra

Hume and Hovell Ultra - 100 mile, 100 kilometres, 50 kilometres and 22 kilometres on a section of the historic Hume and Hovell Walking Track with an overall elevation of 4088 metres. All distances except the 22 kilometres are out and back from Henry Angel Trackhead, nine kilometres south of Tumbarumba on the Tooma Road.

Located in the stunning Snowy Mountains, the Hume Hovell Ultra will challenge your ability as well as inspire your success. Run with the wild brumbies, past pioneer cottages and through rugged mountain ranges, natural forests, pine plantations, past lakes and waterfalls, along narrow winding (95 percent) of single trails.

Bonus drop bag stations, spot trackers for the 100 milers and an amazing country hospitality welcome.

All finishers receive medals and certificates. Recognised by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) , earning points to enter the prestigious Ultra Trail Mont Blonc (UTMB). International Bronze Label holder and under the Australian Ultra Runners Association (AURA) banner.

Paint the Landscape: Weekend Workshops

Learn to paint the Snowy Mountains landscape. During this weekend workshop, you will complete an outdoor landscape painting of the beautiful surrounding Lake Crackenback mountainside with guidance from Artist Violetta Strabic.

Whilst enjoying the scenery, you will be shown how to setup your painting station, and guided step by step from composing your landscape artwork, sketching out the landscape in charcoal, appropriate colour mixing and painting techniques to refine details of the sky, bark, leaves, and grassy rugged textures of the alpine.
Jamming at Jingellic

Jamming at Jingellic is social and sensory stimulation for this remote rural community and visitors to the picturesque region; it serves as an enticement to visitors to experience Upper Murray produce, hospitality and vistas.

The event is staged on the Jingellic Showgrounds: gateway between Southern NSW and North East Victoria. The picturesque venue has huge historic plane trees which provide shade over sweeping green lawns, clear views to the gentle hills which surround Jingellic village and to the South, the Murray River sparkles and sings.

During Jamming at Jingellic the lawns will be dotted with marquees and food vans offering locally produced gourmet food, fine wines and boutique brews, something to tantalise a discerning palate. Musicians will provide an auditory treat and a soundtrack for the event.

A photographic display of imaginative images of aspects of the Upper Murray will inspire and pique interest in the local environs and a show and shine of vintage and classic cars will keep the mechanical minds engaged.

Snowy Mountains Trout Festival

This year will be the 43rd year of the Yamaha / Freshwater Fishing Snowy Mountains Trout Festival.

All you have to do is enter this years event and attend the prize presentation to be in the draw for the Fantastic new Quintrex 390 Explorer boat, with 15hp Yamaha motor and trailer prize valued at over AUD10,000.00.

This years competition is made possible with the continued support from Yamaha Motor Aust.

Snowy Ride

The Snowy Ride is a motorcycle event run annually with the aim of involving motorcycle riders from all over Australia to raise money for Childhood Cancer Research.

It's an opportunity for riders to enjoy a weekend away with friends and family and to ride some of Australia's best and most picturesque roads.

Snowy Ride checkpoints are located at Adaminaby, Dalgety, Berridale, Jindabyne, Cooma, Bombala, Charlotte Pass and riders are to be at the final checkpoint in Thredbo by 4pm on the Saturday.

The first Snowy Ride was launched in 2001 as a request from Steven Walter, a young man who lost his fight against cancer. Steve loved motorcycle riding and asked that a charity motorcycle ride be organised to raise funds for cancer research and cancer care.

Australian National Busking Championships

The Australian National Busking Championships (ANBC) is now in its eighth year.

The event is now held in several towns around Australia, including Stanthorpe, Narooma, Ballarat and Gundagai and Albany coming on board this year.

The finals are then held in the picturesque town of Cooma, gateway to the Snowy Mountains in Southern NSW.

The ANBC is a different sort of music festival for Australia.

The ANBC is a celebration of all styles of music because the Buskers who perform bring a huge variety of music to the event.

Pre-registered Buskers are assigned special locations (Busking Hot Spots) at various times around the Central Business District of Cooma.

Judges roaming throughout the day select a number of Buskers to perform at the finals concert held in Centennial Park later that afternoon.

Battle rounds are held and the judges and audience make their final decision on the winners.

Catherine Britt and the Cold Cold Hearts at Tumut River Brewing Co

When you look at modern country music you can identify a diverse range of styles that have evolved from the traditional roots form. From pop country to bush ballads, acoustic folk-leaning songs to rousing country rock and the polymorphic blend of Americana. One Australian artist that can lay claim to all of these strains is Catherine Britt, a songwriter who has already packed a respected and highly acclaimed career into her first two decades as a recording artist.

The critical acclaim for Catherine's albums and reputation as a performer has seen Catherine tour and perform with some of the biggest names in music, including Sir Elton John, Don McLean, Kasey Chambers, Brooks and Dunn, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Kenny Chesney, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Chris Isaak and Keith Urban.

Michelago Spring Fair

The day includes country fair stalls, plenty of good food, live music and activities for the children.

Stall holders are asked to book their stalls before the end of September.

Previously called the Michelago May Fair, the month has been changed as well as the name.

Bombala Bike Show

As always, the Show'n'Shine competition offers the chance for you to show off your beloved toy and maybe win one of the spectacular trophies and some cash prize money.

The burnout competition will be happening, along with live entertainment, kids entertainment, and rides along with plenty of food and trade stalls on site.

Camping is available at the Showground for no cost, however it is expected that campers will purchase an entry ticket to the show.

Gates open to the public at 4pm Friday 17th, show closes Saturday 18th at midnight.
Annual Bredbo Sheep Dog Trials

L’Étape Australia by Le Tour de France

L’Étape Australia by Le Tour de France is a unique road cycle event that provides an experience as close to riding in the Tour de France as it is possible for an amateur to get.

Staged in the Australian NSW Snowy Mountains on 170 kilometres of fully closed roads and run under professional Tour de France Race conditions, the route includes two challenging King of the Mountain sections.

Australian cyclist Amanda Spratt and Mathew Hayman will ride L’Étape Australia – providing one clinic on Friday and then riding from the back of the pack to the front on the Saturday.
Cannonball Mountain Bike Festival

The Thredbo Cannonball MTB Festival 2018 celebrates six years as Australia’s biggest gravity inspired MTB festival, and once again will set the standard with an array of unrivalled events and nonstop entertainment. Cannonball will again see amateurs; rising stars and the world’s best descend on Thredbo for five days of gravity fuelled action and the chance to take home their share of a whopping AUD70,000 in cash and prizes, making it the biggest prize purse ever seen at an Australian gravity inspired event.

Five mega events will attract different level of riders from not only the nation but from around the world, so don’t be surprised if you see your favourite pro rider in the lift line.

Cooma Sundowners Cup

Held annually, early in December, with the main race being the Sundowners Cup - named in honour of the movie The Sundowners which was filmed in and around Cooma, Adaminaby and Nimmitabel in 1959.

One thousand locals were extras at the Ti Tree Racecourse when the race scene was filmed for the movie.

Come and experience a great day out at the races.

2018 will be the 26th year of the Sundowners Cup - come to the social event of the year!

    Tumut Turf Club shows its colours at the annual Boxing Day Races, the biggest race meet for the year.

    Come down and discover the picturesque Tumut Turf Club. Tumut Turf Club is one of the oldest Race Clubs in NSW having commenced racing in the 1850′s.

    Along with the races come, enjoy live entertainment.

    Food is available through the kiosk and barbecue and bar facilities are available on course. Marquee packages available.

    Country and metropolitan bookmakers will operate on the day with full TAB facilities.

    Please note there are no ATM or Eftpos facilities available.

  • Jindabyne's Man From Snowy River Rodeo

    The annual Man From Snowy River Rodeo event has been running since 1943, originally in Old Jindabyne and now at John Connors Oval, Park Road, Jindabyne Sports Ground.

    The 2018 Rodeo will be bigger and better than ever with it being the 75th Anniversary of this great local event.

    Action includes Open and Novice Bulls, Saddle Bronc, Bareback Horses, Poley Buck Jump, Ladies Barrel Race, Junior Steer ride and Junior Barrel Races. There is also a Ladies Steer Ride for 18 years and over competitors - helmets and vests are required.

    Gates open from 11am with the action to commence at 12pm.

    It's always a great day out for the family with side shows, food stalls, barbecue and bar facilities available.

    To all those who attended the 2017 event a very big Thank You from the Committee for making the day a wonderful success. They invite you to attend again in 2018, bring your friends and make it another fantastic day and ensure the continuation of is long running Snowy Mountains event.

      The famous Thredbo New Year’s Party is a great way to welcome the new year. Thredbo will be the place to be with a big street party and entertainment for all ages. The kids will warm up the Village Square from 5pm with an early street party, the music will be pumping, the glow sticks will be out and the mischievous clown will be tricking it up. Then from 9pm Hard Cover Music will get the party started!
    Tumbarumba Rodeo

    Tumbarumba Rodeo is held every year on New Year's Day.

    This is a full APRA Championship Rodeo with a host of fun-filled events including local barrel race, poddy ride, bucking ponies, stallion chute out, poly saddle ride, Aussie Rules versus Rugby League steer ride challenge, saddle bronc and bareback, and bull ride featuring the big ScreenBull cam, chute cam and instant replays.

    There are full bar facilities and evening entertainment.

    Numeralla Folk Festival

    The Numeralla Folk Festival is held over three days and takes in Australia Day.

    2019 is the forty-fifth year of the Numeralla Folk Festival.

    The Festival is the last traditional 'free' folk festival left in Australia, there are no tickets, all entertainment and camping are free. Join a long weekend of music, poetry, dance, markets, dips in the river, yarns around the campfire and convivial conversation.

    Highlights of the festival include bush dances, a fun kid's program, dance and music workshops and the blackboard concert. Markets will be held on Sunday where local produce is showcased.

    Everyone is welcome to head along to the festival and enjoy a great weekend soaking up the traditional folk festival atmosphere.

    Cooma Australia Day Celebrations

    This is the ultimate sporting weekend, and a great opportunity to see the upcoming equestrian talent.
    Nimmitabel Show

    The Nimmitabel Show is a great country rural show with a variety of horse, sheep and dog events along with the produce competition, cooking competition, and the Art and Craft Exhibition.

    Snowies MTB Festival

    The iconic Snowy Mountains will once again play host to the ultimate mountain bike experience where riders will be challenged with five stages across three days in rugged mountain terrain. Starting at an altitude of 1260 metre, riders will be tested with over 100 kilometre of rugged mountain terrain, technical single track, a mammoth ascent, and some awe inspiring downhills, making this one of Australia’s most iconic mountain bike stage races.

    This event also includes the ‘Thredbo All Mountain Descent’ with a chairlift to the top of Eagles Nest in the shadow of Australia’s highest peak, Mt Kosciuszko followed by six kilometres of epic cross country downhill.

    Join them in what is arguably Australia’s most affordable and logistically convenient MTB stage race where you can just relax and focus on the epic riding that only the iconic Snowies can deliver.

    Tackle all five stages as a solo; Or share the riding between a team of two or three where one person completes each stage, except for Stage Five; Or choose to do just the 45 kilometre marathon, 30 kilometre or 15 kilometre XC MTB on Sunday in this ‘not to be missed’ Mountain Bike Experience.
    Cooma Rodeo

    Cooma Rural Australiana Championships Rodeo is an Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) affiliated rodeo. The event takes place in the rodeo arena at the Cooma Showground from 2pm, and will provide great spectator viewing.

    Exciting events will include: Open Bronc Ride, Open Bull Ride, Open Bare Back, Steer Wrestling, Calf Roping and Ladies Barrel Race.
    Bendigo Bank Tumbafest

    On the last weekend in February of each year since 1997, the township of Tumbarumba plays host to 'Bendigo Bank Tumbafest' - a celebration of music, wine and food.

    Trex Snowy Mountains Cross Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships

    Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa is home to the 2019 Trex Snowy Mountains Cross Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships.

    In February 2019 the Snowy Mountains will come alive with more off road action. Located in the heart of Australia’s High County, and starting at an altitude of 1100 metres with Australia’s highest peak, Mt Kosciusko as the backdrop, the courses will both delight and challenge athletes of all levels.

    TreX XTri: The XTri is the Australian National Championships and World Champs Qualifier. The course includes some of the best fast and flowing single track mountain bike trails, and gritty off road running trails found anywhere in Australia and includes a standard distance, sprint, junior, dirt kids, duathlon and aquabike courses.
    Dalgety Show

      The Dalgety Show offers animal stalls and pavilions with displays of cattle, sheep and goats, horse jumping and side show alley activities. Come and enjoy a great day out at a country show!

      The first show in 1945 was officially held to raise money to build a Memorial Hall to honour soldiers fighting in the war. This show, described by one involved as 'a pretty rough turnout' was followed by several shows that didn't make any money and where no records were kept. However, the fact that the show has been successfully held every year since then is a tribute to the ingenuity and determination of the small community.

      A quilt exhibition is also held in conjunction with the Show and is held in the Memorial Hall.
    Cooma Show

    In the main arena show jumping, horse ring events, yard dog trials, tree felling, woodchop, tug of war will be held, and there will also be a variety of performers on hand to keep you entertained; and of course the Animal and Produce Pavilions will be open with great displays.
    Bombala Show

    The Bombala Show is a traditional country show that offers a unique experience for people of all ages and showcases the local regions produce and country hospitality.

    This wonderful day and night event is jam-packed with attractions including traditional livestock exhibits and art and craft displays. The pavilion is brimming with homemade cakes, preserves, floral displays, paintings and needlework to name but a few.

    Other great attractions include the Bombala show girl, yard dog trials, historic engineer and machinery displays and trade exhibits. The ring events are always well contested.
    RedAss Downhill State Championships - Thredbo

      Rocky Trail will kick off their downhill state racing series with the ultimate weekend of Gravity Racing at one of THE most popular downhill destinations in NSW - Thredbo!

      Events include a Fox Superflow Enduro State race on Saturday and the RedAss NSW/ACT Downhill State Championships on Sunday.

      Thredbo is the ideal playground for racers - the downhillers practice all Saturday and will get the chance to sneak in a Rollercoaster race. Racing will be on Sunday on the challenging and steep Thredbo downhill track.

      Both tracks will be marked and open for practice on the Friday; Thredbo MTB will offer discounted lift tickets for all racers on that day. Rocky Trail event entries will include lift tickets for the weekend; combo-entries for both events will be offered.

      Rocky Trail brings you a whole weekend of Gravity Racing at the most popular downhill destination in NSW - Thredbo!

      Events include a Fox Superflow endur event on Saturday and a RedAss Downhill State Round on Sunday. Thredbo is the ideal playground for racers - the downhillers practice all Saturday and get the chance to sneak in a Superflow enduro race. Racing on Sunday will be on the challenging and steep Thredbo downhill track.

      For the gravity enduro racers it's all about exploring the Flow Trail at Thredbo - it's riding with your mates and adding a bit of competition. The race track will require some fitness and technical skills, and a give you a sense of adventure - equally exciting for all types of mountain bikers including cross country riders, weekend trail riders, and downhillers alike.
    Adaminaby Easter Fair

    Festival of the Falling Leaf

    Autumn in Tumut offers one of the most spectacular display of seasonal colours to be found anywhere in New South Wales.

    In 1954 the local headmaster, Alf Wood, introduced the idea of a festival to celebrate the arrival of autumn and the falling leaves which characterised the town’s many parks and gardens.

    Alf enlisted the support of the Rotary Club of Tumut and The Tumut Festival of the Falling Leaf was born.

    The initial aim of the festival was to foster an appreciation of nature’s colours to both the local community and visitors through a series of events over a period of ten days.

    Over the years the Festival of the Falling Leaf, like the season it represents, has seen many changes, but, has continued to flourish and grow into a fabulous annual event attracting thousand of visitors far and wide.

    In 2018 the Festival will celebrate its sixty-fourth anniversary. A remarkable effort for a community based festival. The event is well supported by the Tumut Shire, the local business community and the Shire residents.

    John Briscoe Art Award Exhibition

    The John Briscoe Memorial Art Prize is the Monaro's most prestigious art award and is sponsored by the Briscoe family in memory of their father, a prominent Monaro artist.

    There are a variety of categories recognising the artistic talent in the Cooma Monaro and Snowy River Region. These include water colours, oils and more. Awards are given in the category sections, overall best entry and viewer's choice.

    Artists are invited to submit work to be judged for generous prizes.

    In 2018 the exhibition is expected to open on Saturday, May 5.

    The Gallery will be open Wednesday to Sunday 9.30pm to 4.30pm.

    Perisher Peak Festival

    NSW Interschools Snowsports Championships

    The Interschools Snowsports Championships encourages students of all abilities and levels to compete for their school in a competitive snowsports competition.

    Students can compete in up to seven snow sports disciplines for skiers and snowboarders. It focuses on fun in skiing and snowboarding at the regional Championships; all set in a framework of friendly competition.

    As the competition steps up to the State and National levels, the level of competition and the difficulty of the courses also steps up; but always with a sense of fair and enjoyable competition.

    The Interschools Championships is a starting block for further snow sports competition and has seen 20 Olympians start their career at Interschools competitions. During the Northern winter, everyone enjoys hearing results from former and current Interschools participants who are representing Australia overseas.
