Guy Warren, 'River, Rainforest, Rock'
Date Sat 8th Dec 2018 to Sat 9th Feb 2019
For Guy Warren personal experience and memory are vitally important, intertwining with subject matter across his works. Certain events and places had such strong impact that they appear constantly throughout the paintings, prints and drawings Warren has produced over the past six decades.

A canoeing trip down the Shoalhaven River Warren undertook in 1939, at the age of sixteen, and a block of land at the head of the Jamberoo valley on which Warren built a shed have both been integral to his practice. Images of the river, canoe and the ‘hut on the hill,’ all imbued with memories and fantasies, are a strong presence throughout his works and the complex overlapping of form found within the rainforest has impacted depth and patterning across his entire oeuvre.

Sydney and Jogja based Jumaadi presents his contemporary shadow puppets which are tools to convey the quotidian, the traditional and the contemporary.

Sydney based Indonesian artist Val Wens uses performance and documentary photography to critique contemporary Indonesian identity.

Darwin based Chayni Henry brings her diary style chronicled experience to life with new works and Gunyabi Ganambarr presents traditional Yolngu stories and art making techniques to the most contemporary of materials which hold up current land use politics and controversy around mining in Northern Australia.

Ramesh Mario Nithyendran's monumental 'Mud Men' completest the exhibition, built on an attitude of agitation, and ostentatious in style, the sculptures of Ramesh Nithiyendran appear to strut and shout, "Look at me! I'm raw and garish. I'm atheist, Hindu, Christian, feminist, queer and gender fluid. I'm exotic and everyday." Reactions to his installations run the gamut of emotive spectatorship, from fits of giggles, wonderment and critical celebration to rankle and disgust.

The Captain Christie Ocean Water Swim
Date Sun 6th Jan 2019
The Captain Christie ocean swim is based on the legend of a sailor docked within Gerringong’s Boat Harbour, the erstwhile Captain William Earnest Bartholomew Christie. This is the oldest ocean swim of its kind, steeped in tradition, and dates back to 1882.

Legend has it that Captain Christie took up his sailor's challenge to swim from the harbour around the rocky headland to Werri Beach, for a bet of a bottle of the finest whisky. And he won. Reliving the event, every participant is rewarded for their valiant effort with a miniature bottle of whisky.

Although not long, the 1.8 kilometre long course is fraught with obstacles for the unprepared. Swimmers have to contend with the invariable north easterly wind chop, the strong currents along the rock shelf, and the breaking swell off the headland. The Captain Christie is held on the first Sunday of the new year, every year. If the conditions are deemed unsafe, the alternate course is run from Seven Mile Beach, Gerroa.

The 2019 event will be held on Sunday 6 January, and includes a division for Stand up paddle boarders.

Minimum swimmer age is 14 years old.

The Gospel According to Paul
Date Tue 26th Feb 2019 to Sat 2nd Mar 2019
By Jonathan Biggins

One of Australia’s favourite performers, Jonathan Biggins, is Paul Keating – visionary, reformer and rabble-rouser.

Beyond the canny impersonation (made famous through his annual turns in The Wharf Revue), Biggins, like so many Australians, has long been fascinated by Keating and what Keating means to Australia.

Showcasing the eviscerating wit, rich rhetoric and ego the size of Everest, he now distils Keating’s essence into this stunning new play, focussing on key biographical milestones, landmark political achievements and personal obsessions. It reveals the man who grew up in the tribe of the Labor Party and gained an education at the knee of Jack Lang, who treated economics as an artform, and demanded we confront the wrongs of our colonial past.

Full of intelligence and humour, this is a funny, insightful and occasionally poignant portrait of Paul Keating – the man that, as he tells it, single-handedly shaped contemporary Australia.

Eden Whale Festival
Date Fri 1st Nov 2019 to Sun 3rd Nov 2019
The Eden Whale Festival is an annual event, highlighting the southern migration of the humpback and other whales. If you want to get up close and personal with these magnificent animals, there is no better place to be in Australia than Eden on the NSW south coast.

The whales can be seen in large numbers in the town's stunning Twofold Bay, whether you are in a boat or, indeed, just from the shore.

For one weekend each year, the rich maritime and whaling history of this port on Australia's Coastal Wilderness becomes the centrepiece for a weekend that somehow seamlessly links all things whale. There's a spectacular street parade, vibrant markets showcasing and selling the work of local artisans, great local food and wine, educational marine displays and presentations, quality children's entertainment, live music, and - of course - the best whale watching experience in Australia.
