The Museum is laid out like a street where you can step into the General Store or Post Office and imagine yourself, basket over your arm, making your purchases.

See how thriftiness and ingenuity driven by hardship and an attitude of 'waste not, want not', led to creative reuse of so many things, long before recycling was discussed. Many buildings have opportunities for children to tinker with items such as telephones, school bells, and a working water pump. It takes two to two and a half hours to browse the displays ranging from households items, a dental surgery to horse drawn farm machinery.
