Songs of Emzara
Date Sat 25th Aug 2018
Songs of Emzara is a tribute to the species who at this moment struggle for their survival – the Indri Indri, Black Crested Gibbon, Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo, Blakiston’s Fish Owl, Booroolong Frog, Blue-throated Macaw… and many more. These are the characters that will take centre stage - it is their voices that you will hear and voices that will touch your heart.

Performed by Dangerous Song, a collaboration between Lizzie O’Keefe and Linsey Pollak, Songs of Emzara combines the human voice with the sounds of endangered animals. Linsey uses breath, lip pressure and fingering to play animal calls while Lizzie weaves her voice in and out of this musical landscape. It is their response to the current 6th Extinction Crisis and it’s a Song for the Planet.

This musical journey takes us to a world of sound where the human and the animal combine. A sort of sonic morphing.

This sonic world is mirrored by the projection of images of our endangered planet onto the performers themselves and lighting the natural world around them creating a multi-dimensional experience for the audience.

The Heart of the Path: The Four Noble Truths With Geshe Tsultr
Date Sat 25th Aug 2018 to Sun 26th Aug 2018
How do we find peace and happiness and cultivate it in the world around us? What are the causes of conflict and suffering that prevent us from doing so? In this weekend course with their precious resident Tibetan teacher Geshe Tsultrim, we explore the foundations of Buddhist thought—the Four Noble Truths.

These are not religious or esoteric ideals. They present a clear view of reality and practical methods of working with our own minds to transform our lives. They are often compared to the diagnosis and treatment of an illness: the Buddha showed how the problems we experience - pain, dissatisfaction, fear and unhappiness - can be understood and remedied.

“Suffering is the means the Buddha used to liberate himself, and it is also the means by which we can become free.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

Whether you are Buddhist or not, beginner or advanced student, the continual study of these principles is the key to leading a happy life. Come along to learn more about them, or deepen your understanding. All are welcome.

Where idyllic beaches host race-riots, governments poll love-rights, and the perils of hypermasculinity are overshadowed only by the enduring horror of Australia’s colonising myth of terra nullius.
