    The Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run forms part of the ultimate sporting weekend, this seven kilometre run takes runners around the spectacular views of Dee Why and Manly.

    The course weaves its way along the Northern beaches and is the perfect way to challenge yourself in the New Year! Whether you're an elite runner, jogger or walker, everyone is welcome! Starting at 6.30am, the Sun Run will begin at The Strand in Dee Why and finish on The Steyne at Manly Beach with all finishers receiving a commemorative medal.

    Run alone or with a group and join in raising funds for over 800 charities, including Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club.

    Runners, joggers, wheelchairs, pushers and walkers are all encouraged to take up the Sun Run challenge!

    The thunder of red fire crackers helps scare away the bad fortune of the previous year to ensure a happy and prosperous Year of the Rooster.

Sydney International Wine Competition - Tasting of the Top 100

    Taste the Top 100 wines, as well as Blue Gold and Gold medal winners. This exclusive opportunity to taste the 'best of the best' food-friendly wines is offered in two sessions.

    The Competition is unique amongst wine shows in that wines are judged alongside food to best replicate the consumer experience.

    Wine lovers will be able to taste over 280 wines from 8 countries awarded TOP 1OO™, Blue Gold, and Gold medals, including trophy winners. Amongst the wines that will be available for tasting are two surprise medal winners – the debut Shiraz and Rosé wines blended by talk-show television celebrity Graham Norton in association with New Zealand’s Invivo Wines.

    While Australian and New Zealand wines dominated the competition, European wineries from France, Italy and Spain were strongly represented amongst the medal winners.

    The Sydney International Wine Competition is unique amongst wine shows in that wines are judged alongside food, making it the most relevant wine competition for consumers.

    An international panel of 14 judges initially blind-tasted all the entrants, and then tasted the 400 leading wines alongside appropriately matched food to decide the award winners.

    Sydney Fish Market is hosting a lion dance to welcome in the Chinese New Year in traditional fashion, handing out special fortune cookies filled with fish-pun fortunes. Sydney Fish Market welcomes all visitors to come and embrace the good fortune of Chinese New Year and enjoy the gastronomic delights this great culture has to offer.

    Marking the first day of the Lunar New Year, the lion dance will take place from 12.30pm to 2pm. The lions will visit each retailer seeking out hidden red envelopes, bestowing luck and prosperity to the stores in return. Customers will also have a chance to 'feed' the red envelopes to the lions to receive blessings of good fortune for the New Year.

Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim

    The Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim is the key annual fundraising event for non-profit charity Rainbow Club Australia, supporting children with disabilities learning to swim and be safe in the water.

    The Magic includes a one kilometre swim starting at 9am, and a 2.4 kilometre swim starting at 10am, with both races starting and finishing on the beach in the protected waters of Malabar Bay. Registrations from 7am on the day, entertainment, prizes and refreshments available for a fun family day out!

    Known as one of Sydney's friendliest swims, around 1,000 swimmers are expected for The Magic, which is part of the Fine Ocean Swimmers Series.

    The Magic is the only ocean swim event in NSW that offers a Swimmer with a Disability Award as part of the event.

    The Wild Women On Top Sydney Coastrek is a 50 OR 55 kilometre Team Trekking Challenge held along Sydney's stunning coastline, including ocean and harbour beaches, headlands, cliff tops and bush tracks starting at either Palm Beach OR Coogee with all teams finishing at Balmoral Beach.

    Sydney Coastrek is an endurance challenge, raising money to support the great work of The Fred Hollows Foundation. It also promotes health and fitness, team work, mental and emotional toughness and FUN!
