Poatina's Australia Day Family Festival captures the true Australian spirit with free festival activities and fun for the whole family. From face painting to children's crafts, a wind tunnel to stilts, Aussie story telling to live music, damper and tea to "snags on the barbie" - there will be something for everyone. A highlight of the day is the gruelling Great Wheelbarrow Race where competitors battle it out in a four kilometre race. Teams race through bushland, cross over creeks and sometimes even dodge wildlife, while pushing a daring passenger in a wheelbarrow! Fantastic prizes include four weekend getaways including breakfast and one main meal at Poatina's Golden Chain Motel. Competing teams in the Great Wheelbarrow Race are made up of four members with at least one male and one female (i.e. three men pushing the wheelbarrow and one woman sitting in it). The wheelbarrow passenger needs to weigh at least 45 kilos and for their own safety, they must supply and wear a bike helmet. Entry into the race is free. Ladies Gumboot Toss, a Hole in One contest and other competitions are held throughout the day |
