Mount Surprise is Far North Queensland’s only fossicking information hub. Take a choice of tours or go alone and hire or buy your own equipment. Plenty of information is available covering the six gem and gold fossicking areas and see how gems are cut and set. The possibility of finding topaz, aquamarine, quartz, peridot, moonstone, agate, fluorite and gold is enormous.
The licensed cafe is set amongst native gardens with giant games, an old miners hut and murals depicted the strong mining history of the region. Coffee is served from breakfast through to dinner with home made meals and treats always available. Plenty of jewellery, gifts and souvenirs are for sale.
