Airlie Beach Foreshore Markets

The Airlie Beach Saturday Markets are located on the foreshore of Airlie Beach, every Saturday morning. Complete with local produce, art, craft and all locally made souvenirs, it is a great place to spend some time, have a coffee or purchase a unique gift. Bowen parkrun

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed five kilometre run or walk, which takes place every Saturday at 7am sharp at Barker Park on Horseshoe Bay Road, Bowen.

Participating is easy, however you must register before the event on the Parkrun website to get your time. You only have to register the once. Parkrun is not a race against other runners, but a five kilometre timed run whether it's for fun or as part of a training plan.

It offers an opportunity for all the local community to come together on a regular basis to enjoy the beautiful surrounds and get physically active at the same time. They want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability - this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is free! Children and dogs are welcome to participate however must be supervised at all times.
Whitsundays Tropical Trail Run Tour

Hamilton Island Endurance Series – Stamford Financial Hilly Marathon

Pristine white beaches. Crystal clear waters. A breathtaking mountainous interior. Hamilton Island is best known as a place to relax. But it is also the perfect place to push yourself in paradise.

The Hamilton Island Endurance Series spans four endurance events from May through to November each year. The Stamford Financial Hilly Marathon, Great Whitehaven Beach Run, Hamilton Island Triathlon, Junior Triathlon and splash'n Dash and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim will test athletes on every level.

Do them all or just do one. Race Hard. Recover Harder.

The challenging 42 kilometre route takes participants along roads, fire trails and walking tracks through Hamilton Island's undulating interior.

There’s a race for everyone; the marathon for the fearless, a half marathon, a three by seven kilometre relay and three different distance options for the kids. This is a perfect challenge for the whole family.

Bowen Offshore Superboats

In 2019, for the sixth consecutive year, Bowen will host a round of the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships. After the success of the previous years, the local community is very excited that the boats are back!

Each year, the Bowen Superboats put the spotlight on Edgecumbe Bay, the Bowen Marina and Foreshore area. It is the largest on water event in Bowen, and is free for the community to attend. Upwards of 15 boats compete and reach speeds in excess of 200 kilometres per hour. The teams bring with them a cast of hundreds - from pit crews to family, friends and loyal supporters- all with a need for speed and all keen to soak up the best the region has to offer.

The Bowen Offshore Superboats are hosted by Bowen Tourism and Business and Offshore Superboats Australia and are proudly supported by the Whitsunday Regional Council.
Whitsunday Reef Festival

The Whitsunday Reef Festival celebrates the Great Barrier Reef and what it means to live in Airlie Beach, Whitsundays - the "Heart of the Reef". The region's favourite festival is a delicious combination of family fun, all-night celebrations, local food and fashion and some of the biggest parties in the north.

The four-day celebration of the reef will feature the spectacular Fireworks on the Foreshore on Friday August 2 complete with live music and DJs, carnival rides, food stalls and night markets lining the beautiful Airlie Beach foreshore. Airlie's Main Street is closed to traffic on the Saturday to host Revvin' the Reef vintage car show, the reef themed Rotary Street Parade and the Whitsunday Magic Mile Run.

The Beach Music stage will be pumping the region’s top live music and entertainment on the foreshore throughout the weekend. Other events include reef art installations and education, Comedy Gala, Telstra Family Fun Day, Wilmar Sugar Wearable Art Parade, helicopter joy rides and cocktails at the "Pop-up" Beach Bar making Reef Festival a perfect time to enjoy the gorgeous Whitsunday winter.
Airlie Beach Race Week Festival of Sailing

The Whitsunday Sailing Club is located in Airlie Beach, gateway to the Central Region of Queensland‘s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is also the Gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and fast becoming known as one of the World’s premier sailing destinations.

Airlie Beach is also home to one of the largest yacht racing regattas in Australia, Airlie Beach Race Week and its onshore Festival of Sailing.

Hosted by the Whitsunday Sailing Club and now in its 31st year, Airlie Beach Race Week is a seven day event that attracts entrants from all over Australia and overseas.

Offshore the Regatta offers classes from IRC competitive racing through to cruising divisions attracting around 1450 competitors, officials and volunteers.

Onshore the Festival of Sailing, is the Whitsunday Coasts’ most significant public event, presenting seven days and nights of high profile, entertainment and social activities. In 2018 attendances peaked at close to 11000.

In 2019 the onshore Social Program will include free live entertainment food stalls, a festival fun run, a long lunch and beer and wine tastings.
Hamilton Island Race Week

Hamilton Island Race Week is one of Australia's favourite yachting events and a firm fixture on the international sailing calendar. Competitors, family and friends come together to enjoy the convivial atmosphere and unique camaraderie of the event's on-water and off-water carnival. Every August, spectators and yachties from around the globe sail to Hamilton Island for Hamilton Island Race Week - Australia's largest offshore keelboat regatta.

Perfectly situated on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef, amongst Queensland's 74 Whitsunday Islands, Hamilton Island offers an experience like no other: glorious weather, azure waters, brilliant beaches, awe-inspiring coral reefs, fascinating flora and fauna, fine food and wines, and activities almost too numerous to mention.
Walk to the Lighthouse

The annual community Walk to the Lighthouse celebrates the rich history of Bowen as the oldest town in the North, the town's connection to a maritime past and the rich sea life that calls Port Dension and Edgecumbe Bay home.

Upon departing the mainland, Lighthouse walkers follow an exposed sand spit in a curving path towards the North Head Island. If you're a first-time walker beware! Your feet will get a little wet and they suggest wearing reef boots or old sneakers!

As you make your way to the half-way point - keeps your eyes down and you'll get a surprise! Very quickly you'll notice many giant red starfish dotting the sandy shallows!

When you reach the North Head Island it is a short climb to the peak and the Lighthouse. You can look back towards Bowen and the hinterland framing the view - or turn your gaze South East and towards the magnificent Gloucester Island.

Following the walk, relax with live music, bar and refreshments on the point and watch the sun set over Bowen, turning the islands pink.
Run The Great Whitsunday Trail

Run The Great Whitsunday Trail takes you on a 28.7 kilometre adventure through the beautiful rainforest of the Conway National Park, starting at Brandy Creek and finishing at the Airlie Beach Lagoon. It is a demanding course with many steep uphill and downhill sections with uneven ground.

Also included for the second time is the 57.4 kilometre Ultra which will really test the runners ability. Runners must have competed previous like events and also trained well for this event.

Brand new event added in 2018 - "The Honeyeater Challenge" - 10.5 kilometres.

Airlie Beach Festival of Music

Located in the town of Airlie Beach at the heart of the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef. With jaw-dropping views from the main tent almost surrounded by the Coral Sea, it’s a party in a tropical paradise. Only here can you see 74 bands alongside 74 islands in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

Festival goers attend three "main marquee" concerts and experience over 200 musicians performing in 16 beach side venues around this fun-filled holiday town.

Stroll from venue to venue and meet the Community Ambassadors who are there to answer all questions. Free courtesy buses run Friday to Sunday for safety and convenience- leave the hassle of driving and parking to them.

Guests are encouraged to extend their stay and take advantage of the many tour opportunities to experience the Whitsundays. They suggest a visit to iconic Whitehaven Beach, flyover Heart Reef, chill out at mainland destinations like Cedar Creek Falls. There is something for everyone.
