Gulf Station is one of the pioneer farms of the Yarra Valley. Its buildings date from the 1850 s and are the most complete group of solid, timber slab, farm buildings surviving in Victoria. The original cottage garden has been restored using available records and personal accounts, and has many surviving plants such as roses, lilacs, mulberry and japonica. The homestead and farm buildings, together with the farm tools, the household utensils, farm animals and cottage garden, give a vivid picture of 19th century farm life. |
