Welcome wine-lovers, to Open Cellars of Nillumbik just 30 minutes drive northeast from the city of Melbourne. You can visit boutique cellars that are not always open to the public Try handcrafted wines that are not always offered by the glass Meet the winemakers, and enjoy a day of art, music and food. This is a free event and not to be missed!! Is there something different about the wines of Nillumbik? Viticulturally, Nillumbik is classed as part of the Yarra Valley, but it's good to note why our wines taste so different. This difference can be explained by our soil and environment.... by our 'terroir'. Nillumbik covers the valley of the Diamond Creek, a tributary of the Yarra River. As you travel around our beautiful region take note of the windswept black volcanic hill ltops of Kangaroo Ground, through the fine soils of Arthurs Creek / Yan Yean to the daunting clay gravels of Panton Hill and St.Andrews. Generally our wines are typical of a cool climate region, crisp and clean, but with an intensity that is unique. But come out and taste our wines, meet our winemakers and hear from them what makes their wines so special. The cellar doors you might visit vary from contemporary design to buildings constructed from local stone and mud. Exhibits from new and award winning local artists are also on display at many of the cellar doors.
