The Kernewek Lowender Art Prize Retrospective "Prized Collection" exhibition will be held as part of the SA History Month and the Kernewek Lowender Copper Coast Cornish Festival at The Moonta Gallery of the Arts during May 2019, open from 11am to 3pm daily.

The Moonta Gallery of the Arts has a different exhibition nearly every month.
Native Plant Sale & Display

The Northern Yorke Peninsula Australian Plant Society are holding their annual Native Plant Sale & Display.

It will include plants to suit local conditions such as drought tolerant, limestone tolerant, coastal and windbreaks. Various other garden products and refreshments will be available for purchase. There will be a plant display and ideal gifts for Mother's Day. Free entry.

Kernewek Lowender Copper Coast Cornish Festival

Mark your calendar – KERNEWEK LOWENDER COPPER COAST CORNISH FESTIVAL - this much anticipated biennial event will be held from Monday 13th May until Sunday 19th May 2019.

The towns of Kadina, Moonta and Wallaroo will be a buzz with excitement– offering a full program with something for every- one.

This is the time our region honours it’s fore-bears with a week of everything Cornish.

Enjoy Maypole and Furry Dancing, Street Parades, Concerts and Cornish Ceremonies, Markets, Feasts and Exhibitions, Art Prize and Cavalcade of Cars and Motor Cycles.

You may like to dress as a Cousin Jack or Jenny in traditional Cornish attire and join in the fun.

Perhaps try your hand at making a traditional Cornish Pasty – or just enjoy eating one at the many fabulous cafes and eateries available.

The 2019 Dressing the Graves at Greens Plains West Cemetery honouring our fore-bears will this year have a farming theme. There will be a post ceremony gathering at the Paskeville Community Centre.

Camelot Garden Stroll

Don't miss this opportunity to stroll through Camelot Garden during the Kernewek Lowender, Cornish Festival.

Admission includes a Cornish cream Tea (part proceeds to Cancer Council SA).

Visit the private garden of Helen and Dean Rodda and enjoy strolling this beautiful depiction of an English Country Garden on an acre of land. The garden beds showcase cottage flowers, including roses, geraniums, fuschias, salvia, hellebores and borders of rosemary and English Box. Established Silky Oak, Claret Ash, Prunus, Pine and Golden Elm trees are a back drop of the garden.

A scaled model of a Cornish Miners’ Cottage can be found at the end of the manicured lawns. A decked area overlooks the dam and adjoins the Croquet Court.

A moving ceremony held to honour ancestors buried in the Kadina Cemetery. Local choirs sing and place flowers. This is a memorable experience and an opportunity to gain unique knowledge on the history of those who lived in the area.

The Dressing of the Graves at the Moonta Cemetery begins with a re-enactment of a funeral procession of the era. A moving ceremony held to honour ancestors buried in the Moonta cemetery. Local school choirs place flowers. A memorable experience and an opportunity to gain unique knowledge on the history of those who lived in the area.
The involvement of our school children lends the ceremonies a truly community atmosphere.

St Mary’s Anglican Church - Three Generations of Art Exhibition

St Mary's Anglican Church, will host a Three Generations of Art Exhibition –Thursday 16th May through to Saturday 18th May from 12 noon -4 pm each day during the Kernewek Lowender festival.
Internationally known artist and Yorke Peninsula born Allyson Parsons will be exhibiting along with her talented son Henry Cockington and Mother Marie.

Entrance is via a gold coin donation and a Celtic afternoon tea will be available each day.

The RSPCA Million Paws Walk 2019 will again be held this year in Wallaroo, with an earlier start time than previously. Everyone is welcome to join in. Registrations are available on the morning or online before the event.
Copper Coast Classic Cavalcade of Cars and Motorcycles, Kernewek Lowender

The Copper Coast Classic Cavalcade of Cars and Motorcycles is held as part of the Copper Coast Cornish Festival, Kernewek Lowender and is for vehicles built in 1985 and earlier. It will be held on Sunday 19th May and starts from the Viterra marshalling yards off Magazine Road, Wallaroo at 10 am. The vehicles then travel through Wallaroo to Moonta, Moonta Bay, Port Hughes before finishing at the Kadina Football Oval between 11.30 am to 12.30 pm.

Spectators line the streets and roads to watch the procession of around 500 cars go by. The vehicles will then assemble on the Kadina Football Oval with a Show 'n Shine, dancing, side shows, stalls, food and drink. An event not to be missed.

St Mary's Anglican Church, Wallaroo - "Coro Quattro"

St Mary’s Anglican Church, Hughes Street, Wallaroo will be hosting a fabulous afternoon of Celtic music featuring Adelaide based harmony group “Coro Quattro” from 2 pm on Sunday 19th May.

This event is being held in conjunction with the Kernewek Lowender. Tickets are $15 including a Celtic Afternoon Tea. Tickets are on sale at the Wallaroo Heritage and Nautical Museum Wallaroo ph 88 233015 or at the Anglican Church Café Kadina.

RAA/Rosewarnes Classic Cavalcade Fun Fair

The RAA/Rosewarnes Classic Cavalcade Fun Fair allows the public to get a closer look at the magnificent machines from the RAA/Rosewarnes Classic Cavalcade of Cars and Motorcycles and an opportunity to chat with the very proud owners.

Enjoy the “Fun of the Fair” where there is entertainment for the whole family. Sample the various foods on offer, stroll around the merchandise stalls, funfair rides, enjoy the festival’s special brew of Swanky Beer from the “pop-up” beer garden.

There will be trophy presentations and you can dance along or just enjoy the
music of the “Legends” Rock ‘n’ Roll Band and Dancers.
Heritage Church Service, Moonta Mines - Kernewek Lowender

The Ecumenical Heritage Church Service features 1,000 voices raised in songs of praise, reminding us of the Christian heritage of our Cornish forebears. Features community singing, an amazing Choir and Worship Service Community Singing from 12.30 pm and church service from 2 pm.

The event is free and no tickets or bookings are required. This event quite often does reach capacity so it is a good idea to arrive earlier.

Captain Harry Butler Centenary

100 years ago in August, Harry Butler was the first in the Southern Hemisphere to fly over water to deliver the mail to Minlaton.
His centenary will be celebrated on August 3 and 4 2019 at Minlaton with planes of all shapes and sizes filling the air to remember not just this amazing feat, but to remember a man who brought so much to aviation.
His life, the life of a larakin of the skies, will be the feature of this special event.

Kadina Annual Show

The Kadina Annual Show is a traditional show and will be held on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th August 2019 - it is family orientated with fun for everyone with both days of the show running from 9am to 4pm.

Proudly one of the longest running shows in the state, exhibitions include arts and crafts, literature, cooking, produce, photography, wood, birds and animals. There will be sideshows, trade sites, food venues, and horses in action, personality awards, colouring competition and many more. Plenty of entertainment for everyone.
Kadina Wallaroo Moonta Informal Band Concert

The Kadina Wallaroo Moonta (KWM) Band will hold informal concerts throughout the year which everyone is welcome to attend, tickets are available at the door. The brass and woodwind band has been performing in the Copper Coast for over 150 years.

Yorke Peninsula Field Days

Established in 1894 the Yorke Peninsula Field Days are acknowledged as the oldest in Australia.

The three day highly acclaimed event has a major focus on agriculture and the future with extensive displays of the latest agriculture machinery and equipment, technology, information and services on a 30 hectare static display site area.

The event program includes fashion parades, working sheep dogs, wool and sheep, excellent guest speaker presentations, quality crafts and general interest products and services.

Overall the event provides a wide variety of quality display and demonstrations designed to be of interest and appeal to both rural and urban families.

Entry fee includes free parking in designated areas as well as entry into all displays, pavilions and demonstrations. There will be courtesy transfers available from Kadina, Wallaroo and Moonta. Please refer to event website for full details.

The Camelot Garden depicts a traditional English country garden, and has often been described by many groups and visitors as a 'hidden gem in Kadina'.

Camelot Garden boasts, tall trees - including prunus, silver birch, silky oak, golden elms, and claret ash as well as salvia bushes, lavender bushes, over 150 flowering roses, with all of them looking beautiful for the commencement of spring.

The garden holds many surprises at every turn, along with beautifully manicured lawns there are many seated areas to sit, rest, reflect and thoroughly enjoy the garden.

Group bookings can be made outside of the annual open days by prior arrangement.

Gynburra Fishing Competition

The Narungga people are the traditional owners of Yorke Peninsula and Gynburra, also called Dusky Morowong, or butterfish, are their favourite fish! From middens discovered and from stories of their people, sea snails, periwinkles, abalone, razor fish, oysters, cockles, crabs, crayfish and the fleshy Gynburra were the main cuisine ... in fact a diet to be jealous of!

To celebrate their history, join the annual Gynburra Fishing Competition, everyone is welcome to compete in sections of Open Men Biggest Fish, Open Men Most Fish, Under 18 Biggest Fish and Under 18 Most Fish, with prize money for each category.

Fishers meeting at 7.10am - competition starts at 7.30am - official measure and count at 4pm.
Australia Day BBQ Breakfast, Moonta Bay

Yorke Peninsula Art Exhibition Opening Night
